Sekhmet is one of the most ancient of Egyptian dieties. She is known as Lady of the Place of the Beginning of Time and One Who Was Before the Gods Were. She is the defender of the gods against all forces of evil. The solar disc on her head signifies her control of the sun. It should be noted that Sekhmet has a dual nature - she is goddess of love and war, healing and pestilence, cursing and blessing and as such one must maintain balance and emphasize the positive in dealing with her. Ancient magicians and priests knew that it was from Sekhmet that the greatest source of power arose. We see her magnificently presented here on a wall relief - the original is from the Temple of Esna - which measures 11.5" x 5'. The medium is hydrostone - the colors are exquisite! There is good detail throughout and the piece reads very well.
